Caledonian MacBrayne operates the largest ferry fleet in Britain, serving 26 Scottish islands. Continuing our unprecedented access, this second 8-part documentary series shows, through the eyes of crew and islanders, how the company’s services underpin so much of life in Scotland’s west coast communities.

Running more than 500 sailings every day on routes connecting Skye, Harris, Lewis, Mull, Islay, Arran and dozens of smaller islands to mainland Scotland and each other, CalMac operate a lifeline service that transports more than 5 million passengers and 1 million vehicles a year, through some of the roughest seas in the world. We’ll meet the dedicated staff - many who live and work in the island communities – as they strive to keep ferry services going in all weathers and as they face significant logistical challenges as an ageing fleet requires maintenance and repair.

SERIES TWO STARTS AT 9pm ON SUN 21ST JULY 2024 ON BBC SCOTLAND
